Many have tried to describe Africa (myself included), but adjectives simply do not offer adequate explanations -- or paint bright enough pictures of Africa's . . . its people, the culture, the stunning landscapes, or her unbelievably beautiful, God-created wildlife. One of my children asked me, "Why did God put all the most amazing animals in Africa?" My answer; "Because God has a very special place in His heart for Africa." And so do we!
Life in general is magnified on this enormous continent. Her people are as different and varied as the colors in the rainbow. Some are slight in stature and friendly (like Malawi), some are tall and fearless (like the Maasai of Kenya), and some are thick and powerfully built (like in Liberia).
This summer we will be visiting and describing each of these very special corners of Africa. Our blog is called, "With Love from Liberia: Following the Chinchen Trail". After 25 years in Malawi and Uganda we decided as a family to travel across Africa to show our children just how grand Africa really is, and let them see the home of the first African Bible College (now ABC University) and the ENI Mission in the Sapo Rainforest where Paul grew up in the deepest jungles of Liberia, in a bamboo mat house built on stilts with no water or electricity. Our purpose will be to review the progress our newly reopened college in Liberia, which is being headed by Dr. Amos Miamen -- an ABC graduate and the first national President of one of our colleges, and to remind our children why our family lives and works in Africa -- these are the people we love, this is where God has called us to serve.
Hi, Chinchen Family! I just got back from a month at the Liberia International Christian College in Ganta. Now that you've been back several years, I'd be curious to know how you remember things? All the best, -- Russ
